WSDOT Shares Travel Tips for Soccer Matches June 15-July 6

WSDOT welcomed soccer fans to Washington and said it has a “highly-accurate and mostly-to-scale map” to help visitors get acquainted with the state.

The agency said having a good time in Washington means planning ahead because congestion is expected on major routes across the state, particularly in the Seattle area on match days.

WSDOT said transit will be the best option for getting around in Seattle. It also suggested that fans can use bikes, scooters, skateboards, or roller blades.

WSDOT listed accounts it said visitors should get familiar with, including Washington State Ferries, King County Metro Transit, Sound Transit, Kitsap Transit, Pierce Transit, Community Transit, Spokane Transit, Seattle Department of Transportation, and Amtrak Cascades.

Locals were warned that even people not attending events will still be impacted by increased visitors. WSDOT said matches in Seattle and Vancouver and nine fan zones across the state mean lots of people will be traveling on north-south and east-west routes across Washington. The agency told people to plan ahead, download its app, and check its resources.

For a full set of resources during matches happening June 15 through July 6, WSDOT directed people to its website. The page includes links to a real-time travel map, the WSDOT app, border crossing wait times, and links to regional transportation partners.

WSDOT ended its post by wishing fans a “Happy summer of soccer” and urging them to stay safe.
