Vancouver Police Department Reports Crime Reduction Success

Staff Report / Vancouverlocal.org

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has reported the activities of its Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), which is made up of six detectives and one sergeant. The unit focuses on efforts to reduce crime throughout the city.

A recent community survey indicated that 62% of respondents believe investigating illegal firearms is a crucial public safety concern.

In 2023, the CRU made 275 arrests and seized 113 firearms as part of its operations.

To address the increasing demand for police services, the City of Vancouver has proposed Proposition 4 to voters. This would involve a property tax levy lid lift that, if approved, would facilitate the hiring of additional police officers, safety staff, and related services. More information can be found at the City of Vancouver's website.
