WSDOT Paint Map: Weekend Closures Across Washington

WSDOT Paint Map: Weekend Closures in Washington

OLYMPIA, Wash. — WSDOT released its weekend travel update, calling it a “paint map” of work that will continue before major projects pause for World Cup games. The update outlines several closures and detours this weekend.

Here’s what’s going on this weekend:

  • Southbound I-405 is CLOSED in Kirkland between NE 124th Street and NE 70th Place until 4 a.m. Monday. Expect major backups throughout the I-405 corridor and heavier congestion on alternate routes. The southbound on-ramps from NE 124th and NE 116th streets to I-405 were closed after several wrong-way drivers created safety risks.
  • Westbound I-90 ramp closures at the I-90/SR 18 interchange continue through 5 a.m. Monday. Expect congestion and delays on WB I-90 in the Snoqualmie area near Preston/Fall City (exit 22) and High Point Way (exit 20), and on EB I-90 near the Snoqualmie/North Bend exit (exit 27) due to detouring traffic.
  • Eastbound SR 520 and associated ramps between I-5 and Montlake Boulevard are CLOSED until 5 a.m. Monday. This work prepares for an upcoming traffic shift as part of the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project.
  • Southbound SR 509 is CLOSED near the Port of Tacoma until 5 a.m. Monday near the Port of Tacoma from Taylor Way E to Port of Tacoma Rd.
  • Southbound I-5 is CLOSED in Vancouver between NE 179th Street and the I-5/I-205 split from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Sunday.
  • Northbound I-5 across the Ship Canal Bridge remains reduced to two lanes. Express lanes remain open northbound 24/7, but expect constrained travel through Seattle.

One bright (green) spot on this week’s Paint Map: the Vantage Bridge remains OPEN until June 1. “Right on Time,” as Brandi Carlile would say. Starting June 1, there will be periodic single-lane closures to do work under the bridge through the Fourth of July weekend. After that, the bridge will go back to full-time lane reductions.

Remember to give yourself extra travel time and to check the travel maps in advance.
