FBI Seeks Help in Ballot Box Arson Cases

Staff Report /

The FBI is investigating a series of fires at ballot drop boxes in Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, and is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect responsible for these incidents. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to the suspect's identification, arrest, and conviction.

The first incident occurred on October 8, 2024, between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m., when an incendiary device was placed on a ballot drop box in Vancouver. Following this, on October 28, 2024, between 2:00 and 4:00 a.m., more incendiary devices were placed on ballot drop boxes in both Vancouver and Portland.

Surveillance footage shows a dark-colored early 2003 to 2004 Volvo S-60 sedan, with dark wheels and a light-colored interior, linked to the suspect. Notably, the vehicle does not have a Volvo logo on its front grill and at the time of the October 28 incidents, it was displaying a fraudulent temporary Washington license plate on the rear, along with no front license plate. This plate is not registered to a Volvo vehicle.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI through tips.fbi.gov or visit www.fbi.gov/wanted/seeking-info/ballot-box-fires for more details.
