Vancouver to Discuss New Arts Tax Workshop

Staff Report / Vancouverlocal.org

On November 4, 2024, the Vancouver City Council will hold a workshop regarding the new Arts and Culture Sales Tax as part of the 2025-26 Biennial Budget discussions. This meeting will focus on the allocations that the city must determine in implementing the new tax.

Key points for discussion include:

1. The percentage of funds, if any, that will be allocated for start-up funding.

2. The amount reserved for direct administrative costs associated with the administration of the program.

3. The percentage of total funds available annually that must be reserved for a public school Capital Assistance Program (CAP), which is required to be no less than 5%.

4. The distribution of remaining funds by the entity designated to manage the program, based on guidelines, criteria, procedures, and identified public benefits determined by the city.
