Vancouver Schools Celebrate Taste Washington Day Feast

Staff Report / Vancouverlocal.org

In celebration of Taste Washington Day, Vancouver Public Schools served a menu featuring fresh, locally-grown foods. The lunches included a variety of options for students.

Students enjoyed Honeycrisp apples sourced from Washington Fruit Growers in Yakima, and a popular pear crisp made with pears from Washington Fruit Co. in Bingen, available notably at Vancouver Innovation, Technology and Arts Elementary.

The menu also featured all-beef hamburgers and cheeseburgers made with beef from Ray’s Meats in Union Gap, and potato wedges prepared with purple potatoes from Bouchey Farms in Wapato and russets from Easterday Farms in Pasco.

High school students had the opportunity to try wild-caught coho salmon served with wild rice pilaf from Muckleshoot Seafood Products in Seattle. Their meals also included roasted organic rainbow carrots from Ralph’s Greenhouse in Mount Vernon and a bibb lettuce salad complemented by ginger honey-mustard vinaigrette from DeGoede Farms in Sumner.

The Nutrition Services team was recognized for their efforts in preparing and serving these meals.
