Local News Guest Arrested for Identity Theft
Staff Report / Vancouverlocal.org
A suspect was arrested for identity theft in Vancouver, Washington, after appearing as a guest on a local news show earlier in the day. The Vancouver Police Department reported that the individual presented a fake ID and business credentials to a cell phone store, securing a line of credit worth $30,000. He acquired approximately $13,000 in stolen phones, iPads, and services and indicated he would return for more items.
The suspect had been previously recognized by regional loss prevention for similar incidents. Investigators identified him through social media, where he was found selling stolen merchandise.
Detectives worked throughout the morning to gather evidence and apprehended the suspect when he returned to collect additional stolen items. Notably, detectives noted that the jewelry he was wearing matched items seen in images of the stolen property posted online. He was still wearing the same outfit from his earlier television appearance at the time of his arrest. The police department commended both patrol officers and property crime detectives for their efforts in the case.
